Eugene Labao is a junior at Kings Row Boys School and a contestant for the school's fencing team.
Appearance[]
Eugene has dark-brown hair and eyes, as well as darker skin indicative of his Filipino-American ethnicity[1].
Personality[]
Eugene is described by his yearmate Bobby as a jock who is nearly always competitive.[2]
He usually sports a broad smile and, although he seems to enjoy playing pranks on unsuspecting students such as Nicholas, he exhibits a sense of fair-play and is seen wishing a defeated opponent well after a match[3].
Eugene is also very persistent and hasn't given up his goal of making the fencing team despite not passing tryouts in the previous two years[4].
Fencing Skills[]
Eugene’s fencing strengths lie in observation and attack to foot. However, taking the blade is something he has problems with.[4]
Coach Williams has Eugene down on her list of front-runners in the tryouts with the comment “Unpredictable”.[5]
During the tryouts, Coach Williams sees him as the most improved fencer by far[6], emphasizing his incredible progress over the last 12 months[7], his outstanding athleticism[6] and his great overall showing[8] in her notes.
Trivia[]
- Eugene’s most treasured possession is his limited edition Adidas Asymmetrik sneakers[4]
- His favorite food is arroz caldo[4] (a Filipino soup made with chicken and rice in ginger-flavored broth[9]; the name is an anglicisation of the Spanish caldo de arroz, literally "rice soup"[10])
