Nicholas' Profile

Nicholas has a messy lifestyle and has problems staying out of trouble, but he is also a hard worker who is determined to pursue his goals. He also has trouble getting used to the rigidly organized lifestyle at the school.

History[]

Despite being the unacknowledged son of fencing legend Robert Coste, he lived a hard life in poverty. In order to become a fencer and face his father, he cleaned the San Remo Ballroom in exchange for fencing lessons from Coach Joe. Unfortunately, his determination is focussed on fencing only, as his performance in his old school was rather meek. He used to be absent often, slept through lessons, and got into fights.[1]

His hidden talent is what brought him to Kings Row. He was able to attend the schools with the help of a scholarship for fencing.[2]

Plot[]

Nicholas seiji room

Nicholas' and Seiji's room

After a devastating loss against Seiji Katayama in a tournament, he begins attending Kings Row. To his dismay, Seiji becomes his roommate. They cannot stand each other to the point that they hang a shower curtain between their beds, effectively splitting the room in two (very different) halves.[2] Seiji also becomes his rival, since they both try out for the school's fencing team. A lot is at stake for Nicholas, as his scholarship depends on him joining the team.

Fencing Skills[]

Out of all boys trying out for the fencing team, Nicholas has the weakest technique, although he can make up for a part of it with superior speed and the fact that he is left-handed, which makes him an unusual opponent for most fencers.[3]

Relationships[]

Nicholas has never personally met his father, yet he does not seem to resent him for not being there for him.[4] He was raised by his mother, with whom Nicholas seems to have a distant and complicated relationship.

Before he attended Kings Row, he was taught fencing by Coach Joe, with whom he had a good relationship.

At Kings Row, he generally gets along well with the other fencers, the sole clear exception being Seiji, as they frequently get into fights. His closest friend is Bobby Rodriguez.

Trivia[]

  • Nicholas lives in dorm room 108[3]
  • According to his profile, his favorite food is cheeseburgers[5]
  • His most treasured possession is a newspaper clip of his father's Olympic victory
  • Out of the sports uniform options available at Kings Row, Nicholas prefers the hoodie
